We were super lucky to get visits from TWO Wilson family members this summer! For those of you who do not know - Wilsons are a special breed. Fiercely familial and proud of our ancestry, but we are a far flung and independent bunch, and, as such, visits to relatives are kind of rare. That's what made it so cool that BOTH our Great-Great-Uncle Lyle (and his fabulous daughter Shannon, and new wife Travis), AND our ...2nd? 3rd? uh...well, cousin, Les came to visit us here at our house!
Uncle Lyle, Travis, and Shannon came to visit from Eufaula (and Troy), Alabama. He is the last surviving sibling of our Great Granddaddy Bob. His stories certainly entertained and informed Mama and Daddy, and we loved getting snuggles from him and cousin Shannon and Mrs. Travis! They kind of treated us like we were the coolest thing ever. We can't disagree! It was a wonderful visit and we look forward to seeing them in Alabama sometime soon!
In July cousin Les came to visit and discuss genealogy with Mama. Daddy decided to go into the mountains with his cousin Darren that weekend (a very successful fishing trip ensued, see below...) so it was just us girls and poor Les. We gave him a run for his money, to be sure. He works in the Air Force, just like Uncle John, and took a whole weekend out of his leave to come visit. We were very flattered! He and Mama traced the Wilson history back to the early 1610s and have even more leads to follow. We also went and visited Grandma Ruth (we picked her brain for some good Wilson stories!) and she thought she'd time warped...apparently Les looks just like Granddaddy and some of his brothers! It was pretty cool getting to meet another Wilson family member. He's also initiated a push to get a Wilson Family Reunion together next summer, so here's hoping we'll see him again in June!
So while us girls were researching ancient history, Daddy and cousin Darren were up in the mountains hiking 26 miles to find fish. Yes, we think they're crazy too. They did, however, accomplish their mission!
